Real Reason Ric Flair Is Done With AEW
It doesn’t look like Ric Flair will be part of AEW moving forward and it seems the company’s sponsorship deal with his energy drink is to blame.
On November 2nd, 2023 it was announced that Ric Flair had signed a huge multi-year contract with AEW. The new deal saw Flair’s Wooooo! Energy brand become the official energy drink of AEW.
Aside from the product branding appearing on television, Flair himself also made several appearances as part of Sting’s retirement tour. The last of those came in Sting’s last match at Revolution where he clashed with the Young Bucks.
Despite Flair’s agreement with AEW said to be for multiple years, some fans have questioned whether it might have been brought to an early end as the Wooooo! Energy branding had disappeared from AEW TV. And it seems that has had an effect on Flair being with the company.
Ric Flair Done With AEW
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer explained why Ric Flair is not likely to be in AEW going forward and it is down to the sponsorship deal collapsing:
I asked and it was not told to me completely but you can kinda read between the lines and the tea leaves and the sponsorship fell through, that’s what happened. The Wooo Energy thing fell apart, the sponsorship fell through.
Tony Khan previously revealed that AEW was not paying Ric Flair and that the energy drink was in essence paying AEW to have Flair featured on their shows.
