Real Reason PCO Destroyed TNA Title

PCO TNA

TNA is livid after PCO went into business for himself and destroyed his title but it seems there was a reason for his unhappiness at the company.

TNA Digital Media Champion PCO was not at TNA’s Genesis pay-per-view but instead competed at The People vs. GCW. PCO shocked everyone when he took out his title belt and smashed it with a sledgehammer. PCO started cutting a very anti-TNA promo before the ring announcer snatched the microphone back and GCW cut to a video.

PCO’s actions are believed to have come as a total surprise to GCW and it seems PCO is on his way out of TNA. Fightful Select has noted that TNA is livid over the situation but claimed that PCO only had a replica of the title and they still had possession of the real belt.

TNA Pulled PCO’s Contract Offer

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer offered more insight into why PCO may have lashed out and it seems it comes down to TNA playing games with a contract offer:

His contract expired at the end of the year. He was offered a new contract and he agreed to it verbally, he did not sign the contract. They came back and they said they were rescinding the offer and offered him another contract. This was at the end of the year when they started the cost-cutting.

A lot of people were offered less money and you saw several people leave over that. They offered him less money, he agreed to it. […] Then they came back again and said we’re not renewing your contract but we want you to drop the title on your way out. So he was gonna drop the title on this taping in San Antonio, I think was the agreement. And then he just never heard from them again.

Meltzer went on to confirm that GCW had no idea what was about to happen and that PCO will now no longer be welcome at TNA’s tapings in San Antonio:

[…] I was told from a GCW standpoint – they said they had no idea he was going to do that, they just thought he was shooting an angle that wasn’t gonna involve the belt and the angle would have been to lead to him…they thought he was going to this next TV taping.

At one point he was and if he shows up at the taping which I’m led to believe is absolutely not happening but I suppose if he does, whatever. [GCW] is saying they didn’t know he was going to do that. But that was the background of why he was upset and why he did that.
