Real Reason For WWE Draft Date Revealed

WWE Draft Adam Pearce Sonya Deville

A new report has shed light on why WWE has chosen their date for the upcoming draft as they look to get some of the rub from the NFL.

Triple H returned to television on the Raw after WrestleMania 39 to pay tribute to those behind the scenes in the company who made WrestleMania possible and a massive success. The Game’s presence proved reassuring to WWE fans on the same day that it was announced that the company was being taken over as part of a deal with Endeavor.

On SmackDown, however, Triple H noted that it was time to look to the future of the company, and with that, he announced that the Draft would be returning in a “few weeks” and touted that it would be the biggest ever and every star in the promotion would be eligible to take part.

WRKD Wrestling previously reported that the WWE Draft will take place on May 8th when Raw emanates from Jacksonville, Florida which just so happens to be the home city of AEW.

Fightful Select has now reported that, according to those close to the situation, the decision to have the WWE Draft take place around the same time as the NFL Draft was “not an accident.” The 2023 NFL Draft will take place from the 27th until the 29th of April.

With WWE looking to capitalize on the interest in the NFL Draft, they might look to take more inspiration from the world of football and bring back the Raw Bowl – but then again, maybe not.
