One major AEW star has not been seen in six months, and now the real reason for their absence has been revealed.

Tony Khan has not been afraid to put people on the sidelines when their future in AEW has been put in doubt. Mariah May has been expected to sign with WWE, and as a result, she has not been seen since her Hollywood ending with Toni Storm at Revolution.

Miro spent more time off AEW television than he did on it before his ill-fated time in the company came to an end. Meanwhile, questions continue to hang over the future of Jack Perry, who has not competed since Wrestle Dynasty in January. Perry had previously missed 9 months from AEW after his part in the incident that caused CM Punk to be fired by the company at All In London in 2023.

But another star is missing for another, less worrying reason – former AEW Women’s World Champion, Hikaru Shida.

Hikaru Shida Back In Japan Amid AEW Absence

Speaking on his Twitch stream, Kenny Omega revealed he’s cat-sitting for Shida, who is in the process of getting her visa renewed, and it seems to be taking a lot longer than planned:

Shida, it’s unfortunate, every couple of years, everyone has to go back to their home country and re-up their visa. I would’ve hated for her cats to have been alone for who knows how long because you never really know how long the process is going to take. In this case, it’s taking quite a while.

Her cats get separation anxiety and don’t like being alone. Dobby [Kenny’s cat] is generally very gentle. They do get along. It’s nice and it’s fun. I would do it anytime. It’s not a chore.

The last time Hikaru Shida was seen in AEW was when she lost to Kris Statlander on the November 20 2024, edition of Dynamite. During her absence, she has competed in a handful of matches in Japan, where she went up against another missing AEW star in Kota Ibushi in mixed tag team bouts.
