Real Reason AEW Champion Has Been Written Off TV
AEW has written off one top star from TV despite them holding a championship in the company.
In the weeks leading up to All In Texas, many stars in AEW banded together behind Hangman Adam Page to help put an end to the reign of terror of Jon Moxley and the Death Riders.
Will Ospreay, Samoa Joe, Powerhouse Hobbs, and Katsuyori Shibata had all helped Page in his battles with the Death Riders ahead of Hangman Page winning the AEW World Title at All In Texas. During his brutal Texas Death match with Moxley, the Death Riders made their presence felt and took out Ospreay with a vicious stomp to a chair wrapped around his neck.
Ultimately, it was Swerve Strickland’s intervention that helped his old rival win the gold. But Ospreay wasn’t the only casualty on the night.
Samoa Joe Taking Time Off From AEW
In the All In Texas opening match, The Opps defended the AEW Trios Title against Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta, and Gabe Kidd. Samoa Joe, Hobbs, and Shibata retained their gold, but the Death Riders’ real plan came to light after the match. The group wrapped a chair around Joe’s neck and Castagnoli “Pillmanized” him, leaving him to be taken out of Globe Life Stadium on a stretcher.
Fightful Select has now reported that the injury angle was done to allow Samoa Joe to miss time from AEW to promote the new season of Twisted Metal – a series he is part of. It’s unknown how long Joe will be absent from AEW, but the new season begins on Peacock on July 31st.
