Huge Randy Orton Grudge Match Announced For September 12th WWE SmackDown
Randy Orton will be in action against a familiar foe on WWE SmackDown.
There was a unique tag team match at WWE SummerSlam as Randy Orton teamed up with singer Jelly Roll against Logan Paul and Drew McIntyre.
Unfortunately for Orton’s team, Jelly Roll was put through a table and then tagged in later in the match, which ended up being a mistake because Jelly got pinned, giving Paul and McIntyre the win.
On the SmackDown episode following SummerSlam, McIntyre viciously assaulted Cody Rhodes with a Claymore Kick that put the WWE Champion Rhodes through the bottom of the commentary table. Rhodes hasn’t been seen since because in the storyline, he is injured. In reality, Cody has been filming the Street Fighter movie.
While Randy Orton hasn’t wrestled since SummerSlam, he did RKO McIntyre out of nowhere to show that their issue isn’t over.
It was also Orton’s way of having Cody’s back, as Orton has been a close friend of Rhodes for over 15 years, dating back to their days in the Legacy stable.
The issues that McIntyre has had with Rhodes and Orton led to speculation that McIntyre could face either man at Wrestlepalooza on September 20th, but nothing has been announced. Instead, a SmackDown match was announced.
Randy Orton Will Face Drew McIntyre On WWE SmackDown
A video package aired on WWE SmackDown in Chicago featuring Randy Orton and Drew McIntyre talking into a camera, but not talking to eachother.
Drew said he doesn’t care what anybody thinks about him while claiming that he always tells the truth. Drew said Orton isn’t the kind of man who can pull the trigger, but Drew is the kind of man who does.
Orton told Drew that you have no idea what is coming for you. Drew said that WWE needs a real man like him. Orton said he’d knock him back into reality when he hits them with the RKO. Drew said his name to end it.
It was announced that Randy Orton would face Drew McIntyre on the September 12th edition of SmackDown in Norfolk, Virginia.
