Why Randy Orton May Beat Cody Rhodes At WWE Night Of Champions

Cody Rhodes Randy Orton WWE

Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes will face each other in the King of the Ring tournament finals at Night of Champions.

Only one of them will leave the premium live event with the chance to a world championship match at SummerSlam 2025.

While The American Nightmare seems to be the more predicted choice, it’s possible Cody Rhodes will not leave Night of Champions as the victor.

Randy Orton will move closer to his 15th world championship

If The American Nightmare wins, he will pursue John Cena. WWE will not book another championship match between them where Cody Rhodes will suffer a defeat.

Freddie Prinze Jr. had an interesting take on why the company will pivot towards The Viper winning the King of the Ring over The American Nightmare on Wrestling with Freddie.

I don’t think Cena’s time is done yet. He isn’t losing this until he walks away and it’s either going to be with the title which would be cold as ice. They’re never going to do that cause they’d say, ‘it weakens the title’, or it’ll be his final match and then he’ll lose it to Cody. So, I don’t think Cody can win the entire tournament. I think they are going to lead themselves into a Randy Orton victor and get him closer to his story of 15 world championships.

Randy Orton can challenge Gunther for SummerSlam, which will take him another step closer to the 15th world championship, and allow WWE to build the storyline between Cody Rhodes and John Cena for the final match.
