Randy Orton Becoming Just 3rd Star To Hit This WWE Milestone
Randy Orton is set to hit a massive milestone in WWE as he will battle Kevin Owens following Owens’ betrayal at WrestleMania 41.
Kevin Owens has fallen apart ever since he turned on Cody Rhodes, failing to defeat his former friend for the Undisputed WWE Championship. Randy Orton also suffered a vicious betrayal from Owens, with The Viper put on the sidelines after suffering a package piledriver—a move previously banned in WWE.
Owens’ spiral into insanity continued when he turned on long-time friend Sami Zayn leading to those two facing off in an unsanctioned match at Elimination Chamber: Toronto. Chairs, hockey sticks, trash cans, and tables were all used before Zayn inadvertently wiped out the referee with a helluva kick. Charles Robinson then ran to the ring after Owens dropped Zayn with a stunner but after just a two-count, Owens took out Robinson as well.
WWE producers came to ringside to beg Kevin Owens to stop as he delivered two powerbombs onto the ring apron to finally put Zayn away. EMTs tended to Zayn immediately after the match but Owens was not done.
Kevin Owens waded through security to return to ringside and expose the concrete floor looking to put Zayn away for good but someone was watching.
Kevin Owens vs. Randy Orton Made For WrestleMania 41
Randy Orton’s music hit and The Viper made his shock return to WWE. Orton dropped Owens with an RKO but stopped short of using a chair as he resorted to his violent past. With Kevin Owens laid out, Randy Orton attempted to nail a vicious punt but was physically restrained by WWE producers.
Now on the March 21 edition of SmackDown, Owens and Orton have come face-to-face again with Kevin Owens even offering to team with Orton to challenge for the WWE Tag Team Championship at WrestleMania 41. Orton quickly rejected that idea and instead vowed to punt Owens’ head off his shoulders in Las Vegas.
This will be the second year in a row that Kevin Owens and Randy Orton face off on the grandest stage of them all. At WrestleMania 40 they were both part of a triple threat match that saw Logan Paul retain his WWE United States Championship. The match will also mark Randy Orton’s 20th time competing at WrestleMania during his legendary career. The only WWE stars to have competed more times at WrestleMania than Orton are Triple H (23) and The Undertaker (27).
