Potential WWE Booking Could Expose Goldberg
Goldberg is back in WWE for one last match, but the company has tread lightly or risk exposing the WWE Hall of Famer completely.
Goldberg recently returned to WWE, where he confronted World Heavyweight Champion Gunther. The former WCW World Champion had not forgotten about their previous confrontation at Bad Blood and wanted one last chance to get his hands on The Ring General.
Goldberg will challenge Gunther for the World Heavyweight Title in his last ever match at Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12th. But the man known for short matches could struggle if WWE wants the title match to last a while, at least according to a former WWE employee.
Goldberg Risks Being Exposed In Long WWE Match
Speaking on The Hannibal TV, former WWE writer Vince Russo explained why he can’t see Goldberg’s last match lasting very long:
I don’t know how it could turn into a long match. Goldberg’s in great freaking shape, Goldberg is 53 years old though I think [Goldberg is 58], the dude’s in great shape, there’s no question about it. The longer the match goes on, the more you’re going to expose the guy. I am a firm believer in protecting your talent. I don’t know how they could possibly make that match go long, bro, but I can’t figure out a lot of things they do these days.
Since Goldberg returned to WWE in 2016, his average match length in one-on-one matches has been 4 minutes and 32 seconds. Gunther has only had 5 matches shorter than that on TV during his time on WWE’s main roster. Two of them were his first main roster matches, which were complete squashes. The other three came against R-Truth, Ricochet, and, most recently, Akira Tozawa.
