Potential Spoiler On Tony Khan’s Big AEW Announcement
Tony Khan is planning to make a big announcement on AEW Dynamite.
AEW Owner, CEO & GM Tony Khan is a big fan of making big announcements. During the AEW All Out PPV in Toronto on Saturday, it was announced that Khan will have a big announcement on the September 24th edition of Dynamite.
Regarding what the announcement could be, Dave Meltzer wrote in a Daily Update on Wrestling Observer that it could be the introduction of Women’s Tag Team Titles, which have already been made.
Most seem to think it’s women’s tag team titles and a tournament. I do know he made women’s tag title belts some time back and said injuries delayed starting the tournament.
Since AEW has been featuring women’s tag teams more often of late, and it’s something many women in the company have talked about, it makes sense that Women’s Tag Team Titles could be added to the long list of titles in AEW.
The AEW women’s division currently has the Women’s World Title held by new champion Kris Statlander and the TBS Championship held by Mercedes Mone for the past 16 months.
Tony Khan Considering Change For AEW Pay-Per-View Events
AEW All Out started at 3 p.m. ET with the main PPV, which meant it started at 8 p.m. in the UK. While the start time was moved up because of WWE running Wrestlepalooza later in the day, Tony Khan mentioned at the All Out post-show that it’s been a good thing for the company. It also led to Khan mentioning that AEW could start some future PPVs earlier in the day, which fans in Europe would likely prefer because otherwise the shows start past midnight.
“It’s definitely something to think about, especially on Saturdays with the way the schedule works and what we’re doing. I do think there is something to it. It’d be something to consider on some of the Sundays. It’s been tremendous for three straight pay-per-views. It’s something I would take into consideration.”
“It’s the third straight pay-per-view with an early start time on the East Coast and in the prime time in the UK, and we’ve had great results in the UK. That’s a huge consideration to us, and that’s a big part of it. Whether it’s Saturday or Sunday, it’s something to think about.”
The next two AEW PPVs are Wrestledream on Saturday, October 18th, and Full Gear on Saturday, November 22nd. Both shows have a 7 p.m. ET start time, but plans could change.
