Big Plans For AEW Star Scrapped After Legitimate Injury
A much-anticipated AEW return turned into disappointment as Colten Gunn suffered a legitimate knee injury in his first match back in months, throwing a wrench into All Elite Wrestling’s summer plans.
The Gunns, Colten and his brother Austin, had not competed as a team on TV for nearly three months, making their July 19 match at Collision a notable comeback. Fans and company officials alike were eager to see the former tag champions back in the spotlight, but the excitement quickly soured when Colten went down with a serious injury, just as tournament season was heating up.
According to Fightful Select, the Gunn brothers were originally booked to be major players in AEW’s new eight-team World Tag Team Championship Eliminator tournament. The tournament was set up to determine who would face the reigning tag champions, The Hurt Syndicate’s Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin, next.
However, during the match taping at Collision, Colten suffered a real knee injury, forcing the medical staff to intervene and the tournament organizers to revise their plans entirely. As a result, Colten Gunns has been pulled from the tournament.
Juice Robinson Replaces Colten Gunn in AEW Eight-Team World Tag Team Championship Eliminator Tournament
Luckily, the Bang Bang Gang is still in the tournament as Juice Robinson, who recently returned to action, took over Colten’s spot. As of July 28, the updated World Tag Team Title Eliminator bracket includes teams such as FTR, The OutRunners, Young Bucks, Gate of Agony, Brodido, and Big Bill & Bryan Keith.
JetSpeed was also in the tournament, but they were ousted by FTR, who have advanced to the next round. The next matches will see Bang Bang Gang (Austin Gunn & Juice Robinson) going up against Big Bill & Bryan Keith, The Outrunners vs. Young Bucks, and Gates of Agony vs Brodido (Brody King & Bandido).
