Paul Wight Gives Details On Captain Insano’s Return
Paul Wight has shed some light on his plans to bring Captain Insano to an AEW ring.
Paul Wight has taken on many guises during his wrestling career, from his time as The Giant in WCW to his long tenure as the Big Show in WWE and most recently as ‘No More BS’ Paul Wight in AEW.
However, one of his more short-lived gimmicks saw him portray Captain Insano in the cult classic 1998 comedy ‘The Waterboy’. The character was the wrestling hero of the film’s protagonist, Bobby Boucher, played by Adam Sandler. In the film, Sandler’s character is mocked when he calls into a live interview segment with Insano.
Back in March, Wight confirmed that AEW now had the rights to use the character. Now, speaking to WrestlingInc, he has discussed the plans to bring the character into the company, saying that he plans to compete in the ring.
“My whole reason for coming to AEW was to work on commentary and to compete more.
“He’ll [Captain Insano] be back. The guy who wrote The Waterboy has approved. Tony Khan and I have secured the rights to Captain Insano. There’s already an outfit made, the whole nine yards. We’re doing a lot of prep work, and this will be my last hoorah so to speak.”
The multi-time World Champion explained that fans shouldn’t set their expectations too high as the character won’t be going for any big titles. Instead, it is a chance for Wight to have some fun.
“Let’s be honest – I don’t think this character is going to be a killer going out there trying to beat Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship. At this point, I think this character is just to have fun. We’ll see how it goes, but for me right now, this is just a chance to have fun with this character and be a bright spot on the show. We’ll see how I’m feeling, and we’ll see how everybody takes off with it.”
