Paul Heyman Playing Key Backstage WWE Role
Paul Heyman remains the Wiseman.
From the moment he turned heel, to his emotional defeat to Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40, Roman Reigns was flanked and often guided by Paul Heyman.
Dubbed “The Wiseman,” Heyman regularly acted as Reigns’ mouthpiece, and sometimes as the voice of reason behind The Bloodline. However, with Reigns gone after WrestleMania, Solo Sikoa assumed control of the group, and that created problems for Heyman who remained loyal to his Tribal Chief.
This defiance came to a head on the June 28th episode of SmackDown when Heyman again refused to acknowledge Sikoa. As punishment, he was attacked and driven through the announce table. Heyman hasn’t been seen on television since. But it seems his absence might be coming to an end.
As he wages war on the new Bloodline, Reigns attempted to turn to Heyman on the November 15th edition of SmackDown. Unfortunately for Reigns, when he dialed Heyman’s phone number, it had been disconnected.
Paul Heyman Is Still Pulling The Strings
Although he hasn’t appeared on-screen Heyman has remained a regular backstage, exerting his creative influence over all things Bloodline.
Speaking to Cheap Heat with Peter Rosenburg, Jey Uso confirmed the former ECW boss has remained incredibly involved behind the scenes.
“The Wiseman is really the Wiseman to my family. He’s been around my family more than 50 years. He is behind the scenes a lot. He does produce, even when he’s not on TV, he’s there.
All the backstage stuff, ‘Say this. Maybe say it like this. Do this. Do that.’ He has a brain for this business. Being around him damn near five years almost every day, I’m glad he’s still around. I’m glad he’s close to my family, and I’m just glad to have him on our side.
He’s a big player to vouch for you and push for you. Any problem we have, we go to him. He makes it happen for my family. We love him,”
During the same interview, Jey Uso opened up about his frustration at his WrestleMania 40 match with his brother Jimmy. Jey said the match left a bad taste in his mouth and he’s keen to run it back one more time.
At least for the time being The Usos are back on the same page and united with Roman Reigns. At Survivor Series the trio will team with Sami Zayn following another emotional reunion to battle Solo Sikoa, Jacob Fatu, Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa, and Bronson Reed. The identity of the fifth member of Reigns’ team is yet to be announced.
