Pat McAfee Had Unique Strategy During Recent WWE Match
Pat McAfee revealed a strategic move he made before his WWE Backlash encounter with Gunther.
Gunther faced off against Pat McAfee at WWE Backlash in a one-sided match most of the way, which was to be expected. After all, Gunther is a former World Heavyweight Champion and Intercontinental Champion in WWE, while McAfee is an announcer, so nobody watching that match likely thought McAfee would win.
McAfee put up a fight and even got a significant nearfall while his friend Michael Cole held Gunther’s foot during a suplex attempt.
The match ended with Gunther winning by putting McAfee in a Sleeper hold. McAfee passed out, so the referee called for the bell. After the match, Gunther respected McAfee and Cole by extending his hand toward them as if to say their issue was finished.
While speaking on The Pat McAfee Show recently, McAfee perhaps comedically, mentioned that he grew out his chest hair on purpose so that he could withstand Gunther’s vicious chops better.
“I think the angle there kind of doesn’t give my shoulder or my arms much credit. I didn’t even think about that obviously as I was piecing it out there. But you see on my arm there’s a little something there and obviously up on my [shoulder]. If you want to zoom in a little bit, there’s still some bruising.
There’s still some stuff around the chest a little bit. I didn’t shave the chest because I thought the hair maybe could provide a little bit of protection. I’m going to go shirtless against this guy, but maybe the hair will help me out.”
Pat McAfee Respects Gunther Even More After WWE Backlash Match
As he continued, McAfee talked about his respect for Gunther growing even more after the match.
“I think GUNTHER knows that he was in a fight. Mad respect to him as well.
Anybody who steps in there with him, now I think I have a little bit different perspective about what it is.”
Even though he was in that painful match with Gunther at Backlash, Pat McAfee was back in his commentary role on WWE Monday Night Raw right by his good friend, Michael Cole.
