Pat McAfee Announces Change To WWE Role
Pat McAfee delivered a sad message to WWE fans.
It was announced in July that Pat McAfee will be returning as an analyst on ESPN’s popular College GameDay show that airs on Saturday mornings prior to that day’s huge college football games.
Now that September is almost here and the college football season is set to begin throughout the fall, there were questions about Pat McAfee’s future with WWE.
The WWE Raw commentary team since January 29th was Michael Cole with Pat McAfee by his side. The duo was reunited after being together on Smackdown in previous years. However, that commentary team is going to be stopped at least for now.
In a video clip on his Instagram Story, it was announced by McAfee himself that the August 19th edition of Raw in Fort Lauderdale, FL will be his last for a while.
“Last Monday Night Raw for a little bit…I’m very bummed out. Tonight will be my last trip to that wonderful WWE family for a while. Alright, let’s have a day. I’m bummed out. Football season is starting, which is awesome, but the WWE family is where I’m supposed to be. I know that, and I hope they do too.”
Another change in WWE commentary is that ESPN’s Joe Tessitore will start as the play-by-play announcer on Raw on September 2nd while Michael Cole goes back to Smackdown.
It’s not yet known what the commentary team plan is when Raw goes to Netflix in January 2025.
When Could Pat McAfee Return To WWE?
McAfee didn’t specifically say when he might be back in WWE, but it will likely be in early 2025 after this college football ends. Even though the college football that McAfee is working on is on Saturdays, he is dedicated to that ESPN role perhaps because he has a daily sports show with the company.
It’s certainly a possibility that WWE will offer up more information about McAfee’s future on tonight’s August 19th episode of Raw.
