Original Roman Reigns Plans For WWE SummerSlam Seemingly Scrapped
WWE may have seemingly scrapped the original plans for Roman Reigns at SummerSlam.
Reigns first clashed with Bron Breakker during the RAW episode after WrestleMania 41, setting up a potential match between them.
The “Original Tribal Chief” returned on the July 14 taping and saved his cousin Jey Uso and CM Punk from Breakker and Bronson Reed.
Until then, WWE’s initial plan included pitting the two in a singles match at ‘the Biggest Party of the Summer.’ But recent events suggest the rivalry may progress as a tag team.
During the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer claimed that WWE may convert the clash into a Reigns/Uso vs. Breakker/Reed tag team match to prevent a major downfall for either athlete.
Meltzer claims WWE is not interested in pinning either Breakker or Reigns, as it would diminish their hold over their position.
A tag team, instead, would give them a target to take the fall for the loss.
Obviously, the plan was Roman Reigns against Bron Breakker and Jey Uso against Bronson Reed. But I could see from watching TV the last two weeks, I could easily see that change into a tag.
One of the things about making a tag that makes it better is that you can pin Bronson Reed, you know, because if they do a singles match, you either got to do a DQ, or you got to beat Roman, which I don’t think they want to do, or you got to beat Bron Breakker, which, I mean, you could do it, but I’m not sure they want to do that one right now. Roman Reigns Confronts Paul Heyman And The Brons
On the July 21 episode of RAW, Roman Reigns confronted Paul Heyman, who was in the ring with The Brons.
Reigns ripped through Heyman, calling him a dumba**. He accused the 59-year-old of taking the credit for creating “The Tribal Chief.”
He also warned Breakker that Heyman would betray him when he thinks he has met his ambitions with him.
The confrontation then turned into a brawl, with Breakker hitting a Spear on OTC1. As Bronson Reed set him up for the Tsunami, Jey Uso intervened to save his cousin.
The segment ended with both Reigns and Uso hitting Spears on Reed and Breakker, respectively.
