Orange Cassidy Never Wanted AEW World Title

Orange Cassidy

Orange Cassidy is an AEW original who has admitted that winning the World Title wasn’t a goal of his.

When AEW launched in 2019, Orange Cassidy was not a household name to most pro wrestling fans. Cassidy also wasn’t a guy who stepped into the ring that much early on in his career, but that would change.

As AEW fans got to know him, Orange Cassidy slowly started getting more physical, and eventually the “lazy man” showed that he could perform in the ring.

During his AEW career so far, Cassidy is considered arguably the greatest AEW International Champion ever since he had two reigns with that title for over 471 days. The next longest International Champion is Pac, who had the title for a total of 108 days, which shows that Orange had two impressive runs as the champion.

The current AEW storyline involving Jon Moxley leading a rogue group as the AEW World Champion has the likes of Darby Allin and Orange Cassidy in the forefront as men who need to step up and fight for the company.

What Does Orange Cassidy Think About Being AEW World Champion?

Chuck Taylor told Orange Cassidy on the October 23rd episode of Dynamite that it was time for him to step up as a leader due to the actions of Jon Moxley and his group, so it appears as if AEW is planting seeds for Orange to emerge as a leader.

In an interview with B.J. Lisko for Youngstown Studio, Cassidy admitted that he never thought about being the World Champion in AEW.

“AEW World Champion, to me, represents professional wrestling, and I feel that it represents what professional wrestling should be, can be, is, and to wear that championship, it means that you are the best wrestler in the world. So it’s something I never thought I would try to attain.”

“I wrestled for it one other time, it was right after the pandemic, it was Double or Nothing [2021], and I wrestled against Kenny Omega and PAC in a triple threat, and I pretty much had the match won, but Don Callis ruined that for me, like he does everything else in my life, and I never saw myself in that position. I think I just didn’t want it, I don’t know.”

Regarding how others perceive him in pro wrestling, Orange Cassidy has made it clear he doesn’t think of himself as a comedy wrestler.
