Australian Officials Make Pitch To Bring WWE Legend To Elimination Chamber
Could a WWE legend be heading to Elimination Chamber?
On September 21st it was announced that WWE will be taking Elimination Chamber to Australia in 2024. The event will take place at The Optus Stadium in Perth, Australia on February 24th, and will be the first Premium Live Event held in the country since 2018.
Fans are expecting to see the company pull out all the stops given the size of the show and its recent push to provide memorable moments at international events. Just in 2023, Backlash was headlined by Bad Bunny in Puerto Rico, and John Cena made a surprise appearance at Money In The Bank in London.
With regard to Elimination Chamber, there have been repeated rumours that The Rock could be making a special appearance. Interestingly, it seems the speculation does have a foundation in reality.
In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer noted that The West Australian newspaper recently discovered that the Australian Tourist Board asked the sports entertainment giant if it would be possible to book The Great One for the event.
“The West Australian, a newspaper out of the Perth area, got some info from the Freedom of Information Act since the Elimination Chamber show on 2/24 is being promoted by the government’s tourism board, and noted that the board asked WWE if it was possible to get Dwayne Johnson for the show. They never said WWE agreed to it.
Johnson last week did a Make-a-Wish deal and hinted about doing something with WWE soon.”
When Did The Rock Last Appear In WWE
The Rock last appeared on WWE television on the September 15th episode of SmackDown. The appearance wasn’t promoted in advance and the legend lay the smackdown on Austin Theory alongside Pat McAfee.
It was the first time the star had been on WWE programming since October 2019 when the blue brand moved to Fox. In the weeks after his return in 2023, The Rock revealed that he contacted Nick Khan directly to set things up.
