Oba Femi Breaks NXT Title Record

Oba Femi WWE NXT North American Champion

Oba Femi has ruled the NXT North American Title picture so much that he set a record.

When Oba Femi won the WWE NXT North American Title from Dragon Lee on the January 9th, 2024 episode of of NXT television, he had competed in less than ten televised matches in his career.

Since then, Oba Femi has decimated everybody in his path while having one of the greatest championship reigns in the history of the NXT brand.

On today’s date of October 5th, 2024, Oba Femi has set the record for most days holding the NXT North American Championship at 270 days. The record of 269 days was held by Wes Lee from October 2022 to July 2023.

During Femi’s reign as the champion, he has defeated everybody put in front of him including Wes Lee in a singles match at Heatwave and everybody else in NXT who has challenged him.

It’s been an incredible journey for the 26-year-old Femi, who signed an NIL deal with WWE in December 2021 while he was still competing in the shotput at the University of Alabama. After he was done college, Femi started with WWE and had his first match in November 2022.

Oba Femi would go on to win the Men’s NXT Breakout Tournament in late 2023-early 2024 and then cashed in that contract to beat Lee for the NXT North American Title.

While Femi is an impressive athlete at 6’4″ and 310 pounds, he is more than just a power guy because he’s so athletic he can move like a cruiserweight and take big bumps for his opponents. Femi has had numerous great matches that have been rated highly by critics and he has won the fans over, as well.

Oba Femi Defending NXT North American Title In St. Louis

On the second episode of WWE NXT on the CW on October 8th in St. Louis, Oba Femi will defend the NXT North American Championship against Tony D’Angelo, who is getting another shot at the champion.

Femi and D’Angelo appeared on Miz TV on the October 1st episode of NXT where Femi confidently told D’Angelo that he can’t beat him while D’Angelo made it clear that he knew how to beat him.

Based on how the storyline has gone, a win for D’Angelo over Femi might happen because WWE might have plans for Femi to go after the NXT Title on the NXT brand or perhaps a move to the main roster. Obviously, WWE management is high on Femi and they should be.
