NXT’s Trick Williams Shocks With TNA World Title Win

Trick Williams

It was a very bad night for TNA at Battleground as NXT star Trick Williams walked away with the promotion’s top championship.

At Rebellion, Joe Hendry put his TNA World Title on the line against Frankie Kazarian and NXT’s Ethan Page in a three-way match. Hendry pinned Page to retain his title, but Trick Williams was out for revenge.

Williams laid out Hendry with his Trick Shot before taking a long, hard look at the TNA World Championship before dropping it on Hendry.

This all led to a TNA World Championship match being made between Joe Hendry and Trick Williams at Battleground on May 25.

Trick Williams Defeats Joe Hendry At Battleground

Williams and Hendry went to war at Battleground, but in the end, it was a title belt to the head of Hendry in front of the referee that proved decisive.

Trick Williams tried to use the TNA World Title belt to attack Hendry, but was stopped by the WWE official calling the bout. The referee left the belt lying in the ring as he went to count the pinfall when Hendry rolled Williams up. The challenger kicked out and avoided a Standing Ovation with a thumb to Hendry’s eye. Williams then dropped Hendry face-first into the title belt. A Trick Shot proved to be decisive as Williams captured the TNA World Title to make history.

TNA President Carlos Silva was shown looking on at ringside with his face etched in disappointment. TNA’s biggest title is now around the waist of a WWE star for the first time ever.
