NXT New Year’s Evil Kicks Off With Brutal Attack On Current Champion

The first WWE NXT of the year starts with the special New Year’s Evil episode, which will see multiple championships be defended on the show, including Oba Femi’s NXT Championship.

The Ruler is set to take on the TNA X-Division Champion Leon Slater after the former won the number one contender’s fatal-four-way match against Joe Hendry, Dion Lennox, and Myles Borne.

The night began was scheduled to begin with a one-on-one match between Thea Hail and Blake Monroe for the NXT Women’s North American Championship, but things took a turn for the wild.

Monroe attacked Thea from behind as the champion made her entrance to the ring and unleashed a brutal beatdown on her. She hit her with a steel chair before throwing her into a barricade.

The two wrestlers needed to be kept apart by match officials, and they tried to stop Blake from continuing with the attack. They took Thea backstage as Ricky Saints made an appearance, leaving the future of the match uncertain.
