NXT Championship Match Caps Off Eventful New Year’s Evil 2026

NXT Championship

NXT New Year’s Evil saved the biggest match of the night for last as the NXT Champion Oba Femi defended his championship against Leon Slater during the main event of the show.

The night had already seen a title change hands as Izzi Dame defeated Thea Hail for the Women’s North American Championship and also saw some other memorable moments take place during the night.

The Ruler kicked off the main event in dominant fashion and took control of the match early on as he dominated Leon Slater thanks to the size advantage he held over the TNA X-Division Champion.

Oba Femi retains the NXT Championship

Leon found a way back into the match after Oba hit his knee into the ring post as Slater escaped out of the way when Femi was striking him with successive knee strikes.

The injured knee almost cost Oba the title after he got his knees up to avoid the Swanton 450 Splash, but it damaged his knee more. He was then almost caught with a surprise win for the three-count, but kicked out right at the end.

Slater, charged up by the near fall he earned, looked to put an end to the match and ran at the champ, but Oba caught hit him with the Fall From Grace to retain the NXT Championship.
