Non-WWE Title To Be Defended On SmackDown Before SummerSlam

A title match has been added to WWE SmackDown before SummerSlam, even though it’s a title that is not usually defended in the promotion.

The ending of WWE SmackDown in Cleveland was a chaotic scene as six of the top teams on the blue brand got into a brawl around the ringside. It’s not the first time there’s been chaos in the tag team division, since the teams on the blue brand often interfere in matches involving other teams.

A frustrated SmackDown GM, Nick Aldis, would go on to announce that a 6-team Tables, Ladders & Chairs tag team match will take place at SummerSlam. The Wyatt Sicks’ Dexter Lumis & Joe Gacy will defend the titles against The Motor City Machine Guns, The Street Profits, #DIY, Fraxiom, and Alberto Del Rio & Rey Fenix.

One team that won’t be part of the 6-team TLC Match is the Los Garza cousin duo of Angel & Berto, who are part of the Legado Del Fantasma group with Santos Escobar.

In a video posted on WWE’s YouTube channel and social media, Escobar appeared alongside Los Garza, who are the AAA World Tag Team Champions. Berto said that they represent Lucha Libre around the world. Angel said that they are defending the AAA Tag Team Titles next week on the August 1st edition of SmackDown. Escobar said it was an open challenge.

It’s not known whether WWE will announce Los Garza’s challenge before SmackDown on August 1, or if the challengers will reveal themselves right before the match takes place.

WWE SmackDown Will Also Feature John Cena One Night Before SummerSlam

The final WWE SmackDown before SummerSlam takes place on Friday, August 1st, from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. There are at least three matches known already for the show.

Giulia will defend the Women’s US Championship against former champion Zelina Vega. Giulia also has a new ally in Kiana James, who made her TV return as a manager of sorts for Giulia. James missed over a year of in-ring action due to a knee injury, but she’s back now.

There will also be a Damian Priest-Aleister Black grudge match, which was set up because of Black’s recent backstage attack on Priest.

The Undisputed WWE Champion John Cena is also being advertised for the final SmackDown before the two-night SummerSlam event. Cody Rhodes has made it clear he wants to face the real John Cena at SummerSlam, rather than the current version of Cena that appears to be a lot more cowardly than what the WWE Universe is used to.
