Tetsuya Naito isn’t the only star set to leave NJPW.

On April 16th, NJPW made the shock announcement that Tetsuya Naito would be leaving the promotion. The departure will be a huge blow to the company as Naito is one of the biggest stars on the roster and the leader of the hugely popular Los Ingobernables de Japon faction.

Shortly after announcing the departure of Naito, New Japan also revealed that fellow LIJ member BUSHI would be joining him in leaving the company after they both finish up their commitments on May 4th.

“Thank you for supporting New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

“At his own request and after careful consultation, NJPW has come to terms with the departure of BUSHI following currently scheduled appearances ending on May 4 in Fukuoka.

“NJPW apologises for any concern or disappointment caused by this announcement, and joins fans in wishing BUSHI the very best in all of his future endeavours.”

According to Tokyo Sports, BUSHI signed a new deal with New Japan earlier this year, but has been granted an early release by the promotion. As he requested his release at the same time Naito decided against re-signing, it is expected that the two will be working together going forward.

BUSHI was one of the first members of LIJ, joining up with Naito and EVIL in 2015. During his time in the group, the star held the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship and Junior Tag Team Titles, he is also a six-time NEVER Openweight Six-Man Tag Team Champion.

Tetsuya Naito Previously Teased Possibility Of Leaving NJPW

Tetsuya Naito hinted at leaving NJPW in early April. In an interview with Tokyo Sports, the five-time Heavyweight Champion revealed that a sticking point had come up in negotiations on a new deal over how many dates the company wanted him to work.
