NJPW Star Adds To CM Punk Backlash

CM Punk as AEW World Champion

A top New Japan Pro Wrestling star has added to the recent criticism of CM Punk following his press conference outburst and subsequent suspension in AEW.

All Out should have been one of the best nights of CM Punk’s illustrious career as the star captured the AEW World Championship in his hometown of Chicago from Jon Moxley in the night’s main event.

However, the real story came after the show as Punk left several of his colleagues without a name at the post-show press conference while sat next to AEW boss Tony Khan. CM Punk hit out at The Young Bucks, Hangman Adam Page, and his former friend Colt Cabana in astonishing scenes.

Worse was to come as a fight broke out later after The Young Bucks confronted Punk about his comments. An investigation into what happened is underway but Punk has been suspended by the company and stripped of the AEW World Title in the meantime.

The vacating of the AEW Championship appeared to be inevitable however as during the main event Punk suffered an injury that will likely see him miss the rest of 2022.

Several wrestling personalities have criticised CM Punk in the aftermath of the events with former AEW star Bobby Fish taking Punk to task for his attitude after their match together and even hit out at Punk for using NJPW star KENTA’s finisher, something of a breach of etiquette in the wrestling world.

KENTA – who wrestled in NXT as Hideo Itami – has now taken to social media to post a screenshot of some of Fish’s comments and to indicate his agreement with the former Undisuputed Era star.
