NJPW Legend In Tears As Kenny Omega Records Famous Tokyo Dome Win

Kenny Omega

Kenny Omega is back.

In early December 2023 after feeling unwell for several weeks, Kenny Omega sought medical attention. But the star wasn’t prepared for what came next.

Omega was diagnosed with diverticulitis and informed that if the condition had gone untreated for much longer, his life would have been in danger. What followed was a lengthy recovery process, during which there was no guarantee he would ever wrestle again.

However, Omega remained determined to complete his career on his terms, and at NJPW Power Struggle he declared his intention to wrestle again. In the minutes after that rallying cry in the ring, Omega was attacked backstage by Gabe Kidd, kicking off a rivalry that grew increasingly personal.

The scathing name-calling continued for several weeks, and Gabe Kidd even found time to call out Tony Khan and the entire AEW roster. But there was only one place a match could take place, and it wouldn’t be in an AEW ring.

Kenny Omega Scores Emotional Win

On January 5th, 2025, Kenny Omega returned to the Tokyo Dome.

Almost two years to the day from his last appearance at the famous stadium, Omega strutted down the ramp in search of answers. Not only was the former World Champion wondering if he still had enough to defeat Kidd, but also if he could still perform at anything like his old best. For his part, Kidd was more motivated than ever, determined to defend the honor of New Japan Pro-Wrestling and re-establish the promotion as a global force.

The ensuing bout was a war of epic proportions. Both men were left bleeding by the final bell with chaos, destruction, and broken tables in their wake. Kidd appeared to be on the verge of victory following a Ganso Bomb, but Omega somehow rallied to hit a Kamigoye, and the One-winged Angel to grab an emotional victory.

As both men were helped backstage, NJPW President and guest commentator Hiroshi Tanahashi was shown in tears at ringside.
