NJPW Issues Fine & Warning After Kenny Omega Assault
Kenny Omega found himself in an unexpected fight when he returned to NJPW and that has had major consequences for his newest rival.
Kenny Omega hasn’t wrestled since being diagnosed with diverticulitis in early December 2023, with his last match coming on December 5th. The former AEW World Champion had hoped to avoid surgery, but he eventually went under the knife in May after making two appearances on Dynamite.
At New Japan Pro Wrestling Power Struggle, Kenny Omega returned to the company where he made his name to express his desire to represent AEW against a young member of the NJPW roster at Wrestle Dynasty on January 5th 2025 in the Tokyo Dome although nothing was set in stone.
However, one member of the NJPW roster that fits the bill was clearly listening as later in the show it was noted Omega had been involved in a backstage altercation with Gabe Kidd. And it seems that has had consequences for Kidd.
Kenny Omega Attack Leads To Fine For Gabe Kidd
At the Wrestle Kingdom press conference, NJPW President Hiroshi Tanahashi confirmed that Gabe Kidd has been fined and given a formal warning as a result of the attack:
On November 4 in Osaka, after he delivered an address to the crowd, Kenny Omega was involved in a physical altercation with Gabe Kidd.
We take this incident seriously and after investigation have determined that Kidd’s actions in physically assaulting a non active wrestler were unbecoming of a professional.
Gabe has been issued with a formal warning and a fine as a result.
I would like to formally apologise to Kenny Omega and AEW for the distress caused.
Kenny Omega alluded to CM Punk’s infamous backstage fight in AEW after his run-in with Kidd and it remains to be seen if Omega will be in the ring with the young NJPW star come January 5th.
