NJPW Puts Huge Price On International Tickets For Hiroshi Tanahashi’s Farewell
NJPW might be struggling, but the company has had some good news as tickets for Hiroshi Tanahashi’s retirement are selling out at a huge price.
Hiroshi Tanahashi announced that Wrestle Kingdom 2026 would see his final match as he winds down his legendary in-ring career. Tanahashi is the current New Japan Pro Wrestling president, and he will continue in his corporate role once he hangs up his boots in the Tokyo Dome on January 4th.
Tanahashi picked up a huge win at Forbidden Door as he teamed with Darby Allin, Will Ospreay, Kota Ibushi, and Kenny Omega to defeat the Death Riders and the Young Bucks. That was Tanahashi’s final match in the UK, and it seems fans outside of Japan are desperate to be in attendance when he says his goodbye.
NJPW Sell Out Tickets To International Fans
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez noted that tickets for Wrestle Kingdom 2026 had gone on sale to foreign fans, and “sold every single one of them out in 15 minutes.”
Dave Meltzer noted that he was unsure how many tickets had been opened up to international visitors, but all those tickets available came at the steep price of $750.
It was noted that more tickets could be put on sale for the event that neither Alvarez nor Meltzer expects to sell out.
Other than Tanahashi’s retirement match, no other bouts have been confirmed for Wrestle Kingdom 20. Konosuke Takeshita will get his shot at the IWGP World Heavyweight Title before January as he looks to build on his success in NJPW after winning the G1 Climax.
