NJPW Could Be Next WWE Acquisition

Triple H WWE

WWE is in buying mode once again as it snaps up a historic promotion, but could New Japan Pro Wrestling really be in their sights?

24 years on from Vince McMahon’s purchase of WCW, WWE has announced the acquisition of the famous Mexican Promotion AAA. Michael Cole broke the news during the WrestleMania 41 pre-show, shortly after a new Worlds Collide event involving talent from NXT and AAA was announced.

Several AAA figures and Mexican WWE wrestlers were on hand for the announcement that sent shockwaves around the industry. Some reports have suggested a recent AEW announcement pushed WWE to make the purchase that had been in the works for quite some time.

At WrestleMania 41, AAA star Vikingo was spotlighted as he got physical at ringside with El Grande Americano ahead of his match with Rey Fenix.

Could NJPW Be On WWE’s Radar?

Following news of that purchase, former WWE, NJPW, and AEW announcer Kevin Kelly took to social media to suggest that New Japan Pro Wrestling could also be a contender to be snapped up by WWE.

Kevin Kelly followed up by noting his take on the situation was just a hunch, but pointed to The Rock recently sporting an NJPW shirt, which received a lot of attention:

Just a hunch. Rocks cryptic photo now buying AAA? There are no coincidences
