NJPW Champion’s Contract Nearing End

A current NJPW is on the show for Wrestle Kingdom on January 4th but their time in the company could be coming to an end.

Fightful Select has reported that NJPW Strong Tag Team Champion El Phantasmo has “heavily hinted” that his contract with the promotion comes to an end on January 31st, 2024. This has not been confirmed by NJPW but Phantasmo is said to have noted to Sean Ross Sapp that he was heading towards a contract period.

There is no word on the status of his current tag team partner Hikuleo who WWE had previously shown an interest in.

El Phantasmo and Hikuleo will put their NJPW Strong Tag Team Title on the line at Wrestle Kingdom against Bishamon. The Bishamon team of Hirooki Goto and Yoshi-Hashi will also have their IWGP Tag Team Championship on the line in the winner take all match.

It is currently a time of major change in the Japanese promotion as Hiroshi Tanahashi has been named the new President of NJPW.

Tanahashi already knows that he will be losing Will Ospreay from the full-time roster as the English star has already signed with AEW.
