NJPW Announce World Tag League Line Up
NJPW has announced the full lineup for their upcoming World Tag League tournament which begins on the 21st of November.
The lineage of the World Tag League dates back to 1980 when WWE Hall of Famers Antonio Inoki and Bob Backlund were the tournament’s first-ever winners.
The tournament will take place in tandem with the Super Junior Tag League with both events culminating on the 14th of December in Sendai Sunplaza Hall. It is noted in NJPW’s announcement that the winners of the events will likely book their place at Wrestle Kingdom 17 where IWGP Tag Team Champions FTR could lie in wait for the winners.
2021 World Tag League winners Hirooki Goto & Yoshi-Hashi return for the tournament as Goto looks to win the event for the fourth time in his career. They will kick off the tournament by facing the team they defeated in the 2021 final, EVIL and Yujiro Takahashi of Bullet Club.
Bullet Club will have two bites at the cherry as Bad Luck Fale teams up with Chase Owens in the tournament. Los Ingbernables de Japon will be represented by Tetsuya Naito and Sanada while United Empire’s Aussie Open will also take part as will Great-O-Khan and Aaron Henare.
Suzuki-gun’s leader Minoru Suzuki will team up with the man he won the 2011 World Tag League with, AEW’s Lance Archer, for the event while NJPW’s Ace, Hiroshi Tanahashi, teams up with Toru Yano.
The tournament is rounded out with TMDK – Shane Haste and Mikey Nicholls – as well as the duo of Alex Coughlin and Gabriel Kidd.
