Nigel McGuinness Stunned By AEW WrestleDream Angle

Nigel McGuinness promo AEW Collision

Nigel McGuinness has reflected on WrestleDream.

For decades the careers of Bryan Danielson and Nigel McGuinness have been intertwined. So naturally, when McGuinness returned to the ring with AEW, there was only one man he wanted to face.

Danielson and the British star shared the ring one more time at Grand Slam, and although Danielson got the win, McGuinness remained at odds with his long-time rival. So it was perhaps fitting that McGuinness was at the announce desk when Danielson lost the AEW World Title and his full-time career at WrestleDream.

However, that was only part of the story.

After Jon Moxley claimed the World Title, he and the rest of the ‘new BCC’ attacked Danielson, with Wheeler Yuta turning his back on his mentor to suffocate him with a plastic bag. The show which took place in front of Danielson’s home fans ended with the American Dragon leaving on a stretcher.

Speaking at the post-WrestleDream press conference, McGuinness commented on the brutal end to Danielson’s full-time career.

“No, I don’t think anyone can question Bryan’s determination, and I said it on the show tonight. I thought about the end of his career for a long time, but when it actually happened, it wasn’t what I expected.”

Nigel McGuinness Could Continue In-Ring Career

In the lead-up to WrestleDream, Nigel McGuinness admitted his in-ring career could continue. The commentator explained that while he’s at peace with never wrestling again, further matches remain a possibility.

McGuinness returned to the ring at All In for the first time since 2011 before going on to face Danielson at Grand Slam. The star joined AEW in 2023 after a spell with WWE.
