Nigel McGuinness Makes Shock In-Ring Return For ROH Title

Nigel McGuinness

Nigel McGuinness ended his in-ring exile at All In but now the AEW announcer has gone after championship gold in a shock appearance.

At AEW All In Nigel McGuinness shocked the world by returning to the ring for the first time since 2011. In front of a raucous Wembley crowd, the British star rolled back the years as he took part in the Casino Gauntlet Match.

McGuinness had repeatedly been linked with one more match against Bryan Danielson, but that dream appeared to disappear when Danielson announced his intention to retire. However, at Grand Slam the pair got to wrestle one more time with the American Dragon earning the win.

Although that match appears to have given McGuinness a storybook ending to his in-ring career, the English star clearly is not done as he’s gone after championship gold.

Nigel McGuinness Fights For ROH Title

At Ring of Honor Final Battle, Lee Moriarty put his ROH Pure Championship on the line in an open challenge. The Hammerstein Ballroom crowd were stunned when Nigel McGuinness made his entrance as he looked to claim the title he once held for 350 days.

McGuinness urged Moriarty to face him for the title under the old pure rules which included no judges at ringside. After consulting with Shane Taylor, Moriarty agreed and eventually managed to retain his title by submission.
