News: Cain Velasquez Has Signed a Multi-Year Deal with WWE, Retired from UFC
Cain Velasquez is WWE bound officially. ESPN is reporting that former two-time UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez has signed a lucrative multi-year deal with the WWE. Valesquez has informed the UFC of his retirement and has been removed from the UFC’s United States Anti-Doping Agencies drug testing pool.
The signing of Velasquez was also reported on WWE.com today as well.
Velasquez made his debut for WWE last Friday night on Smackdown when he attacked Lesnar, who had just won the WWE Title. It was then announced earlier today that Velasquez and Lesnar will face each other on October 31st in Saudi Arabia for the WWE’s Crown Jewel event. That match is not for Lesnar’s WWE Title.
Velasquez had these comments about his transition to professional wrestling.
“This is definitely my focus. My family is into it. They love it. They’re super excited. I haven’t seen them excited over something like this in a while. It’s cool.”
Velasquez is 37 years old and has only had two professional wrestling matches as part of six-man tag team match on AAA wrestling shows. In 2018, he spent some time training at WWE’s Performance Center.
Matt’s Musings: Velasquez is a special athlete and has the potential to be a huge signing for WWE. He is getting thrown into the deep end of the WWE very quickly, however. Main eventing against Brock Lesnar for your first match in WWE is a very large ask especially for someone who only has had two pro wrestling matches. Hopefully Velasquez can learn on the job quickly, and put on an entertaining match at Crown Jewel.
