New WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Crowned On Raw

WWE Women's Tag Team Championship belts

Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez were left in the unenviable position of being forced to relinquish the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship when Morgan suffered an injury but now those title belts have a new home.

A fatal four-way match for the championship was set for the 29th of May edition of Raw that would see Chelsea Green & Sonya Deville, Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler, Bayley & IYO SKY, as well as Rodriguez and her new partner Shotzi do battle.

As the match wore on things began to break down due to the amount of bodies involved but Ronda Rousey was able to take advantage of Shotzi who attempted a diving senton but instead got trapped in Rousey’s deadly arm bar. That was enough for Rousey and Baszler to secure the championship for their first time together.

Reports suggested that Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler were originally set to capture the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship back at WrestleMania 39. Instead, Rousey and Baszler ended up winning a fatal four-way WrestleMania Showcase match while then-champions Becky Lynch & Lita teamed with Trish Stratus to defeat Damage CTRL.

Prior to those plans, Rousey was originally set to carry the SmackDown Women’s Championship into WrestleMania and lose to Royal Rumble winner Rhea Ripley. But with Rousey’s eyes on the tag team division, she lost that title to Charlotte Flair on the final SmackDown of 2022.

The win gives Ronda Rousey her first reign as a tag team champion in WWE while Shayna Baszler is now in her third reign with the title, having held it twice previously with Nia Jax.
