New WWE Champion Crowned As Ex-AEW Star Wins Big

One of the exodus of former AEW stars now plying their trade in WWE has won their first gold in the company as Tony D’Angelo loses out.

Over the last eighteen months, Shawn Spears, Lexis King, Ethan Page, and Ricky Saints made the jump from AEW to WWE with all four men now part of the NXT roster.

Since joining their new home Ethan Page has captured the NXT Championship and Lexis King has won the Heritage Cup. Ricky Saints is the newest of the quartet on the roster only having one match in NXT so far. Ricky Saints has been forced to give up a title due to signing with WWE and Shawn Spears has yet to win a title in the company. But on the March 4 edition of NXT that all changed.

Spears has worked hard to get into the mind of Tony D’Angelo in recent weeks as he builds his own faction to deal with The Family. Izzi Dame had grown close to D’Angelo but she showed her true colours when she betrayed him and revealed her true allegiance was to Shawn Spears.

Shawn Spears managed to defeat D’Angelo thanks to D’Angelo’s storyline back injury playing up allowing Spears to hook him and pick up the win. This is the first title win in Spears’ long career in a major company after three stints with WWE and one with AEW.
