New Report Says NXT Veterans Could Be “On The Chopping Block”

NXT

A new report has suggested that many long-time members of the NXT locker room could be set for the chop as the brand undergoes monumental changes.

WWE President Nick Khan recently stated that the black and gold brand was set for a “complete revamp” and a new logo and theme have already been released.

It has also recently been reported that Vince McMahon and his right-hand man Bruce Prichard could be taking charge of the overall direction of the show that has been headed up by Triple H and Shawn Michaels.

On Wrestling Observer Radio Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez discussed some of the changes that they already noticed in the latest edition of NXT on the USA Network. Alvarez noted that there seemed to be more emphasis on having younger talent face more established names:

“You can see from the three shows that they have taped that the whole idea is different. It’s not about Kyle O’Reilly vs. Roderick Strong. It’s let’s put Roderick Strong against someone who is newer. Let’s put Kyle O’Reilly in with someone who is newer, it’s like a learning experience for all of these new people. It’s like a totally different show. The veterans are there to help the new guys learn.”

Dave Meltzer continued saying that he’d heard that some of those more established names might not be long for the new world of NXT:

“And then probably getting phased out. I mean I’ve certainly heard, again, I’ve heard names on the chopping block. And you don’t know until it happens, but I definitely heard names, and a lot of the guys who have been there for a long time, are the names that are being talked about.”

The NXT brand has apparently lost their former champion Adam Cole after his short-term contract extension expired on the 27th of August.
