New Report Casts Doubt On WWE Plans For SmackDown
A planned change to WWE SmackDown might not be happening as soon as fans thought.
2024 was a year of huge change for WWE, with announcements that all three of its weekly television shows would be on the move.
This saw SmackDown leave Fox for the USA Network, NXT move to the CW, and confirmation that Raw would be landing on Netflix from January 2025.
With Raw moving to Netflix, WWE made the decision to make SmackDown a three-hour show starting with the January 3, 2025, edition. For its entire run since 2019, SmackDown has been a two-hour show, giving wrestling fans one more hour of content to keep up with every week in a very saturated market.
But it was reported that the switch would only be temporary, with SmackDown moving back to being two hours on June 6.
WWE Changes Could Be On Hold
However, according to a new report from Mike Johnson of PWInsider, internal listings at the USA Network currently have SmackDown at three hours, even in early June. This seemingly contradicts those earlier reports on the show.
There has been no official comment from WWE or the USA Network on the future of the show.
Both Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes have been missing from SmackDown since WrestleMania 41, but both are expected to return in the coming weeks.
