New NXT Champion Crowned As Major Streak Crashes To An End

On a night when WWE programming went up against AEW, there were celebrations to be had as a new champion was crowned in NXT.

The second edition of NXT on the CW Network saw Randy Orton compete in only his second-ever match on the brand and his first in eleven years as he picked up a win over Je’Von Evans.

Grayson Waller and Austin Theory challenged Nathan Frazer and Axiom for the NXT Tag Team Championship on the show but the title holders were able to retain their gold as Frazer pinned Theory after hitting his Phoenix Splash. However, there wasn’t such good news for another champion on the brand.

In 2024, Oba Femi broke title records in NXT as the North American Champion and has remained undefeated throughout the year. At No Mercy in September, Femi defeated Tony D’Angelo to retain his title but when NXT headed to St. Louis, The Don was in line for a rematch.

Tony D’Angelo Wins NXT Gold

Oba Femi looked dominant in the early going of the match and D’Angelo refused to use a crowbar to his advantage during the bout. But when Femi hoisted D’Angelo up for a powerbomb, the move was countered with Tony D’Angelo trapping Oba Femi in a roll-up to claim the win and the NXT North American Championship.

That win gives D’Angelo his fourth title reign in NXT as he has previously held the tag team title twice as well as the NXT Heritage Cup while also handing Oba Femi his first televised defeat on the NXT show.
