New Report Gives New Insight Into Mercedes Mone’s Status Within AEW

Mercedes Mone

A new report has given an update on Mercedes Mone’s position inside AEW.

After finally leaving WWE, Mercedes Mone set about rebuilding her career with NJPW in early 2023. Although her run was initially derailed by injury, she later signed with AEW in March 2024, and she’s continued to notch up big wins and capture championship gold ever since.

Mone currently holds the TBS Championship, NJPW Strong Women’s Championship, and RevPro Undisputed British Women’s Championship.

On top of that, she recently advanced to the finals of the Owen Hart Cup after a win over ROH Women’s Champion Athena. Mercedes Mone will now face Jamie Hayter at Double or Nothing, with the winner going on to challenge for the AEW Women’s Championship at All In Texas.

Sources Surprised By Mercedes Mone Claims

In recent weeks, there’s been renewed speculation that Mercedes Mone has, and regularly utilises, creative control within AEW. However, a new report from Fightful Select has reiterated that those claims couldn’t be further from the truth.

The report cites sources within AEW and NJPW who denied that Mone ensures she wins matches against international stars rarely used on AEW television, or wrestlers who have only recently won their first televised match.

Those sources note they haven’t heard of Mone having creative control. Meanwhile, a source familiar with both added that Mone hasn’t refused to lose any matches because pitches for her to lose haven’t been made.

Any hints of creative control by Mone are believed to be in character. Another source highlighted the fact that Mone changed her 2023 match with Willow Nightingale for the NJPW Women’s Strong Title on the fly to make sure she lost after she suffered a serious ankle injury.
