Naomi Defends Lash Legend Over “Offbrand Naomi” Comments
Though she remains absent from WWE programming, Naomi has come to the defence of NXT Superstar Lash Legend after some less-than-pleasant comparisons between the two.
Walking out of WWE during the 16 May Monday Night Raw alongside Sasha Banks, the current WWE status of Naomi remains unknown. The real-life Trinity Fatu was reportedly nearing the end of her contract, with negotiations underway prior to her leaving the scene.
Now taking to Twitter, Naomi has defended Lash Legend, an NXT prospect, after a fan blasted Legend as an “offbrand Naomi”. The one-time SmackDown Women’s Champion praised Lash while requesting fans to stop comparing black wrestlers to one another:
“Absolutely NOT! Lash is in her own lane. I’m very proud of her and I look forward to her growth and success. Please stop comparing us black women for the wrong reasons. Respectfully.”
Lash Legend, a trainee at the WWE Performance Center, made her debut on 205 Live’s 10 December broadcast, besting Amari Miller. Now aligned with NXT Tag Team Champions Pretty Deadly, Legend has fought the likes of Alba Fyre and Indi Hartwell, alongside fellow prospects Fallon Henley and Tatum Paxley.
As for Naomi, the former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion last competed on an untelevised live event on 15 May. Creative differences were reported as the reason for her and Sasha Banks walking out of WWE, specifically relating to the direction of the aforementioned championships.
