MVP Finally Reveals Stunning Truth About WWE Exit

MVP cuts a promo in WWE

MVP has set the record straight with a candid revelation about his WWE departure.

The Franchise Playa spent two impactful stints with the Stamford-based company. His first run was from 2006 to 2010, where he captured the United States and Tag Team Championships.

His second run from 2020 to 2024 saw him as an elite manager for The Hurt Business with Bobby Lashley, Shelton Benjamin, and Cedric Alexander, guiding Lashley to the WWE Championship and the group to the RAW Tag Team Titles, before transitioning to manage Omos through 2023–2024.

MVP Chose To Walk Away From WWE To Reignite His Wrestling Passion

Speaking on the Marking Out with MVP & Dwayne Swayze podcast, MVP addressed his WWE exit. He explained that WWE didn’t fire him; he chose to leave the promotion to chase a creative reset in NJPW. He confessed to not being happy in WWE anymore, which led him to decide to walk away from the Triple H-led company.

He said, “A lot of people thought that I got fired by WWE. I asked for my release. I had a year left on my deal. They were offering me a five-year deal, and at that point, I just wasn’t happy anymore. I had lost my passion for wrestling, and I wanted to wrestle again. I asked for my release so that I could go to New Japan, and it reinvigorated my love for wrestling again.” [13:31 – 13:54]

After his WWE contract expired in August 2024, MVP debuted at AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam on September 25, 2024, interrupting Prince Nana and offering to “talk business” around Swerve Strickland, signaling a managerial power play.

He soon unveiled The Hurt Syndicate alongside former Hurt Business allies, expanding his role from on-screen executive to active competitor and faction architect in AEW programming.
