MVP Confirms AEW Star Was Originally Planned To Join Hurt Syndicate
MVP has lifted the lid on original plans for the Hurt Syndicate.
At AEW Dynamite Grand Slam 2024, MVP finally became All Elite, but as expected, that was only part of his story.
In the weeks that followed, the former WWE star reunited with Shelton Benjamin, and later Bobby Lashley as the Hurt Business became the Hurt Syndicate. Benjamin and Lashley went on to become World Tag Team Champions.
The group even squeezed in a brief dalliance with MJF, who had been desperate to join the trio. However, he was kicked out of the faction shortly after joining and sent back into a storyline with “Hangman” Adam Page.
MVP Confirms Dropped Plans For The Hurt Syndicate
During an appearance on Marking Out with MVP & Dwayne Swayze, MVP gave fans an insight into the original plans for the Hurt Syndicate in AEW. This included having Ricochet join the group; however, things took the high flyer in a different direction.
“Because Cedric was still under contract, we were coming over, and at the time you were still negotiating, there were a lot of pieces. We’re like, ‘Okay, we’re gonna reunite and we’re gonna Ricochet’s gonna have that spot, but in our business, we have the saying: card subject to change.
We did that spot in the ring with Bobby when he snatched you up, and that was supposed to have been like, where we start initiating Ricochet and where his character changes. He goes, and he becomes, ‘I hurt people,’ but as things sometimes happen organically, his career path went a completely different way, and selfishly, like I wanted him in the Hurt Syndicate, but I dare say things worked out better for you as they are.”
At Forbidden Door, the Hurt Syndicate lost the AEW World Tag Team Championship to Bandido and Brody King. Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin had held the gold since beating Private Party on the January 22 edition of Dynamite.
The loss came shortly after it was reported that the Hurt Syndicate had refused to lose in AEW on several occasions. This included refusing to lose the World Tag Team Titles to FTR on two different occasions. FTR were also included in the match at Forbidden Door.
The same report also claimed that MVP had heat with “Speedball” Mike Bailey.
