Popular Musician Regrets Dissing The Rock At Major WWE Show
A popular singer knows better than to mock The Rock while performing at WrestleMania.
The WrestleMania 28 main event was big because it was the first time The Rock was back in a WWE ring for a match in seven years. Not only that, but Rock’s match with John Cena took place in Miami, which is considered Rock’s hometown.
As most fans of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson know, he has a few hometowns since his family moved around a lot when he was younger, but Miami is perhaps the city most associated with him since he played football at the University of Miami.
Before John Cena’s entrance at WrestleMania 28, singer Machine Gun Kelly and Skyler Grey sang the song “Invincible” and MGK said that Cena was an underdog while also taking a shot at The Rock. That led to the crowd of 70,000+ fans booing MGK, which was easily heard on the broadcast.
Machine Gun Kelly Didn’t Know The Rock Was A Miami Guy
In an interview with Adrian Hernandez, MGK made it clear that he didn’t know at the time that The Rock was beloved in Miami.
“The funniest thing that I did was not know that Miami was The Rock’s hometown so when I went out there and was like dogging The Rock and everyone started booing, I was like, ‘What did I do?’
I never heard 80,000 boos come in at one time but that was my first experience and kinda broke me in to where I was like, ‘Alright, I gotta have thick skin.’”
The Rock went on to beat John Cena in that WrestleMania 28 main event. One year later they did it again at WrestleMania 29 with Cena beating Rock and this time it was for the WWE Championship that Rock held going into the show.
Regarding The Rock’s future in WWE, there is uncertainty about that due to his busy schedule outside of the wrestling ring.
