Hall Of Famer Believes Mr. Iguana Will Thrive In WWE

Mr. Iguana

A Hall of Famer believes Mr. Iguana could be a “merch bonanza” in WWE.

Mr. Iguana became a huge star during the WWE-AAA Worlds Collide event in Los Angeles. Iguana is a man who dresses in green and black, has green/black paint on his head, and he has a stuffed Iguana that he sometimes carries in his mouth called La Yesca.

At Worlds Collide, Mr. Iguana teamed with Octagón Jr. and Aero Star to defeat Dragon Lee, Cruz Del Toro, and Lince Dorado in the six-man tag team match that opened the show.

The crowd reaction for Iguana was strong, and he sold a lot of merchandise. Clearly, WWE took notice, as Mr. Iguana mentioned he would be joining the WWE main roster soon rather than going to NXT, which perhaps he shouldn’t have said publicly, but it’s out there now.

John Bradshaw Layfield (JBL) is a big fan of Mr. Iguana, and JBL has seen more of him than most WWE fans since he’s been a part of AAA shows in the past. While speaking on the Something to Wrestle podcast, JBL spoke about Mr. Iguana as a performer.

This isn’t just some bulls**t gimmick that he’s carrying around. I mean, he knows all about iguanas. This comes out of a passion that he has for iguanas.

I was talking to him last time about, you know, you need to do some stuff like Ricky Steamboat did, with the dragon and all this stuff; the vignettes, not in the ring, because you’ll have a problem with PETA if you start bringing live animals in the ring and something gets stepped on or something.”

JBL Believes Mr. Iguana Will Be A “Merch Bonanza” For WWE

As he continued, JBL continued to praise Iguana for being a brilliant performer who will do well in WWE.

“He is just a good person. He knows the business. He’s gotten over like a million dollars, and I agree with you, this is a merch bonanza. They’re going to sell so many freakin’ iguanas. It’s not just because he’s got a colorful look and a colorful little iguana that goes with it, it’s because of him. Again, it’s hard to get over. That kid has gotten over in Mexico.

I’ve watched him every time I go down there. I’m a huge fan of his. He can work. He can do all this crazy stuff. The people love him, and he has a way of integrating all this, this crazy, silly stuffed iguana, into his match. It’s really unique.

You gotta see this guy. I think it’s going to change over time, because what worked in Mexico is going to have to morph a little bit to what works in the United States. That doesn’t mean it changes completely, but it’s going to change, and he’s smart enough to do it.”

Mr. Iguana was shown sitting ringside at NXT on June 10th, but he has yet to appear on Raw or SmackDown.
