The Historic Moment Paul Heyman Realised He’d Be In WWE Forever

Paul Heyman WWE

Paul Heyman has been a fixture in WWE for years but after his original departure he never thought he’d be back and the wrestling landscape might be very different.

Paul Heyman first joined WWE after the demise of ECW in 2001 and during his first spell, he is best remembered for his partnership with a young rookie named Brock Lesnar that burst onto the scene in 2002.

Heyman left WWE under a cloud in 2006 as tempers flared over the return of the ECW brand in the company. However, after Brock Lesnar returned after his own tempestuous exit from WWE, it was only a matter of time before Heyman returned, even if he didn’t think it would happen.

Paul Heyman Made WWE History With Brock Lesnar

Speaking to the New York Post, Paul Heyman revealed he never thought he’d be back in WWE and didn’t imagine a return when Brock Lesnar made his shock comeback in 2012. However, one momentous moment made Heyman realise that once he was back, he wasn’t going anywhere again:

I thought I was done. When Brock Lesnar first came back in 2012, I didn’t come with him. I couldn’t imagine coming back to the industry. I thought I was finished for good and it was time to do something else with my life. They made me an offer I couldn’t refuse, and the funny thing is both Brock and I only agreed to come back for a year, till the WrestleMania at MetLife in 2013. But by that time, I was already working with CM Punk on camera and behind the scenes, and was having so much fun that we decided to stick around.

The next year was the match with the Undertaker in which Lesnar conquered the undefeated streak. Once that happened, I figured I was pretty much here for life.

At WrestleMania 30, Paul Heyman catapulted himself in the mind of many to be considered the greatest wrestling manager of all time when he was in the corner of Brock Lesnar as Lesnar ended The Undertaker’s Streak.

Paul Heyman was announced as the first inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2024. That induction will take place in Philadelphia, the city synonymous with ECW.
