MJF Comes To WWE’s Defense Against Ronda Rousey’s Criticism
AEW’s MJF is siding with WWE after seeing some complaints from a former champion.
Maxwell Jacob Friedman has been All Elite since the company launched in January 2019.
While Friedman talked openly about being a free agent that could speak to WWE in the “Bidding War of 2024,” things never went that far because MJF chose to re-sign with AEW, and WWE has been unable to sign him from their rival promotion.
As a former AEW World Champion who is still under 30 years old, it’s possible that MJF could go to WWE one day, but for now, he remains a homegrown AEW talent.
There were some comments from former WWE Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey that got a lot of attention on social media. The comments featured Rousey complaining about how WWE made her feud with Alexa Bliss because of how well Alexa’s merchandise was selling.
“The fact that they had me fighting Alexa Bliss at all was f*cking ridiculous. And you want to know why they had me against Alexa Bliss? Because she had the most merch sales at the time, on that side. Like, what the f*ck? Like, that’s your decision-making process?”
MJF Tries To Explain How Pro Wrestling Works To Ronda Rousey
It is typical in pro wrestling for people to get a push due to their merchandise sales or drawing ability, because it shows that the fans want to see that person on the shows.
Writing on X/Twitter, former AEW World Champion MJF had a sarcastic response to what Rousey said.
It’s almost like pro wrestling much like any professional sport functions as a business.
F**king crazy 🤯

MJF was absent from the September 3rd episode of AEW Dynamite. He also wasn’t on Dynamite the previous week, but that show did feature a post-Forbidden Door promo from MJF as he spoke about his frustrating AEW World Title loss against “Hangman” Adam Page.
Friedman still holds the contract that allows him a shot at the AEW World Title, but he has to make his intentions known at least one week before the match.
