MJF Wins Major Championship Outside Of AEW
MJF is better than you and you know it, even when he’s outside of AEW.
It’s been an interesting summer for the youngest and longest reigning AEW World Champion, Maxwell Jacob Friedman, aka MJF. At AEW All In Texas, MJF won the coveted Casino Battle Royal, which means he gets a shot at the AEW World Championship whenever he wants to execute the contract.
Outside of the AEW ring, MJF is also gaining mainstream popularity because he appears in the popular Happy Gilmore 2 movie on Netflix, where he plays Gordie Gilmore, who is one of Happy’s five children (four sons and one daughter).
In addition to winning the AEW World Title match contract, MJF has also been feuding with several people in AEW. That includes the legendary Mistico, who works for CMLL and defeated MJF by DQ on the June 18th edition of Dynamite in Mexico City. Those two men have unresolved issues that will likely lead to another match.
MJF competed in the main event of Friday’s CMLL show in Arena Mexico, and he defeated Averno to win the CMLL Light Heavyweight Title. It ended with Maxwell applying a half crab submission. He used a low blow and then re-applied the half crab to beat Averno, who held the Light Heavyweight Title for a year.

Following the victory, MJF was confronted by Zandokan Jr. to set up a match. CMLL posted a video later with MJF doing a promo about how he would be defending the CMLL Light Heavyweight Title against Zandokan Jr. on August 15th.
MJF Facing Mark Briscoe On AEW Dynamite
For the past two months, MJF has also had issues with the popular veteran Mark Briscoe in AEW. MJF has brought up the name of Mark’s deceased brother, Jay Briscoe, numerous times, which has infuriated Mark.
After Mark beat Ricochet in the main event of Dynamite on July 30th, he called out Max for a fight. MJF responded by saying he’d face Mark Briscoe in a match on the August 6th edition of Dynamite. That also led to a cheap attack by Max, but the AEW World Champion “Hangman” Adam Page was there to save his friend Briscoe.
In addition to his issues with Mark Briscoe, Mistico, and Hangman, MJF has also infuriated The Hurt Syndicate’s Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin, both of whom have said that they want Max out of the group. However, The Hurt Syndicate’s MVP hasn’t confirmed if MJF is out of the group yet.
If anything, Maxwell Jacob Friedman is reaffirming his status as one of the most hated men in pro wrestling.
