MJF Pays Tribute To Cody Rhodes At Double Or Nothing

MJF Cody Rhodes

When AEW began in 2019, MJF walked behind Cody Rhodes, earning his trust and then breaking his heart, but it seems the AEW World Champion learned something from The American Nightmare.

Cody Rhodes was cost the chance of being AEW World Champion ever by MJF when the young star threw in the towel during Rhodes’ title match against Chris Jericho back in late 2019. After that match, MJF turned on his mentor and the devil AEW fans know today was born.

At Double Or Nothing, MJF put his AEW World Title on the line in a pillars four-way match against Sammy Guevara, Jungle Boy Jack Perry, and Darby Allin. All men who also have a lot to be grateful for from some of wrestling’s biggest stars.

This played out during the match itself with an excellent sequence that began with Darby Allin paying homage to Sting and dropping MJF with a Scorpion Death Drop. Allin then got caught by Sammy Guevara who delivered a Code Breaker straight out of Chris Jericho’s playbook to the former TNT Champion. Jack Perry then showed he learned something from Christian Cage during their ill-fated alliance as he took out The Spanish God with a Kill Switch.

The sequence was capped off, however, by MJF who returned to his feet to pay tribute to the man now making waves in WWE as he dropped Perry with a Cross Rhodes. That wasn’t enough for The Salt of the Earth to pick up the win but he did later in the match as he took down Darby Allin once again with a side headlock takeover.
