AEW fans will have to wait to see MJF back in action.

MJF hasn’t wrestled since being defeated by Samoa Joe at Worlds End in December. Heading into that match he was dealing with a legitimately torn labrum as well as a hip injury sustained during his clash with Jay White at Full Gear.

There had been hopes he would be back on television soon, but it seems that won’t be the case.

On April 27th, Jason Solomon noted on social media that it will be “a while” before the former World Champion returns, adding there’s no timetable on a comeback.

This was followed by a report from Wrestle Purists which confirmed the star had suffered a setback, recently undergoing surgery.

Sources close to the situation have confirmed to WrestlePurists that MJF has undergone surgery on his left shoulder. MJF was originally aiming for a March return and met with Tony Khan in Boston to discuss creative plans.

The injuries to MJF and Adam Cole have dramatically affected creative plans for MJF vs Undisputed Kingdom feud. Max was looking to wrap the program up. There is no timetable for his return.

Tony Khan Can’t Wait To Have MJF Back

The blow comes just a week after Tony Khan talked up his hopes for MJF when he returns to AEW.

Speaking at the post-Dynasty media scrum, Khan said he was looking to welcome back “one of the biggest stars in AEW” sooner than later. However, it now seems both the AEW boss and AEW fans will have to wait to see the Salt of the Earth back in action.

In more positive news, Adam Cole appears to be closing on a return to the ring after rising from his wheelchair at Dynasty. While the moment was far from confirmation that Cole has been cleared, the big on-screen development appeared to hint he’ll soon be back in action.

Long-term absentee Kenny Omega will be back on Dynamite on May 1st when AEW returns to Winnipeg. Omega has been sidelined since being diagnosed with diverticulitis back in December.
